Industrial News:The story
of Ken Kutaragi, the father of the PlayStation, being squeezed out of
his high
executive position was probably the biggest piece of industry news this
past
week. He was also known as the Crazy Ken, and he has a notorious
reputation for
his inability to work with fellow staff. It looks like Sir Howard
Stinger
shafted his current position and now he remains the “honorary” CEO of
SCE. In
an exclusive interview with EE times, he said "As a matter of
course, I have the vision of Playstation 4, 5 and 6, which will merge
into the
network." What he meant by this is still unclear, does he mean that the
PlayStation 4 can be used to complement the computing power of our
PlayStation
5 and 6? I guess we will never find out for another 7-10 years.
However, here
is a short video of how the father of the PlayStation came about:

Industrial News: This week’s video
game forum was clogged up
by David Jaffe, creator of God of War,’s sneak preview comment on what
is one
thing he would have done differently for the PS3. He said, “This will
probably
come back and bite in my ass in four years, but I would have took out
the
blue-ray and sold the box for less”. If you haven’t seemed the full
video yet,
click here to watch this Sunday’s bonus round. A lot of gamers also
blamed
GameTrailers for sensationalizing the video so they can drive more
traffic to
their site.
On the
forefront of the console war, I will again pull data from vgcharts. Let
me
emphasis one point that some visitors have been critical about. I do
not
believe 100% the numbers that vg game has, but I think they do a
thorough job
analyzing the NPD data and they actually come very close in the numbers
of
consoles sold for the last generations; but of course, often this
number does
not include sales from Canada or Wal-Mart. However, I will be
consistent with the
data and I will just quote them until a better source comes along. Please note that when Microsoft or Sony said
that we have “shipped 10 million Xboxes”, it does not represent the
numbers of
consoles sold through to the customers, that is where the NPD data
comes in,
and I think VgChartz does a pretty good job at analyzing the NPD data.
Game Buzz: This
week the three news articles that have
received the most viewers are the fan-base movie trailer of
MGS, which I admit
it’s quite professionally done considering the budget of the home-made
movie. The
second most visited link is that Ace Combat is no longer
an exclusive to the
Xbox, and it’s now making its way to the PS3. I predicted this three
weeks ago
when I wrote the Ace Combat history, so no surprise here. Crysis’s conceptual
picture take the 3rd place of this week’s mostly viewed
pages. As I
am writing this article, from Crytech’s website; they are looking for
PS3
programmers to apply for a job there. Many fans are hoping Crysis is
coming to
the PS3; however, the argument of the PS3’s ability to handle Crysis is
uncleared. The numbers of Lair trailers that we have seem, it’s a not
an
un-usual bet that many gamers believed that the PS3 may just be able to
make it
look close to its PC counterparts. Now, of course, being a non-biased
gamer, I
wish the Xbox gamers would be able to enjoy this as well, so let’s hope
they
put out an ad for this as well.
DiggingTheWeb: I
am sorry that recent updates on the sites
are lacking, but the nature of my work sometimes prevent me from
updating
routinely, you will usually see it once every 2-3 weeks such as this
week.
Anyways, I will try not to back-track and give you guys more breaking
news as
it arrives. Thanks for y’all support.
April 08, 2007
8:25AM I have been busy this week but
I hope you guys
are still enjoying what I have dug up; nothing really 'big' happened
this week,
so here is the weekly summary.
Industrial News Its time to
see the progress of the Console war and
see who's gained the most foothold. Scroll down and see the chart from
last
week for the number comparisons.
With the help of the European
debut, the PS3 manage to gain a total of 350K units (an impressive 11%
increase
of total numbers of PS3 in one week) surpassing both the Wii and Xbox
this week
at 330k and -90K for the Xbox 360. You maybe wondering, how come the
total
number of Xbox 360 dropped? Well, this is all un-official data and gets
refined
all the time, no one really know who many Xboxes are actually sold
through
retailers. We can see a trend though, Microsoft, watch out because the
Wii and
PS3 are really taking a bite out of your market share! Of course, MS
still has
a whole lot of exclusive to help its sales in the next 24 months, so we
will
see how many faithful PS2 owners they can convert or get them to
upgrade to the
360.
Since we are on Microsoft, I might
as well mentioned that this week's forum has been non-stop Microsoft
bashing
for a change (take a break, Sony) for its bullying business model. MS
has apparently
forced Epic, creator of the award winning Gears of War, to release the
remaining map pack for a price! Epic wanted to do it for free, but MS
will not
allow that to happen, ouch! This is my thought, I am not a Sony fanboy
or
anything, but if Sony brings out Home and improve on PSN, and it
remains
free...MS will have to change its online strategy and start giving out
free
cakes to everyone. As of right now, Live still has online superiority
over PSN.
Game Buzz:
The most
popular news
this week is the PSM scan of FF13! This is pretty impressive; we have
about 10
different forums of various languages linking to PSM - FF13 to
Exceed Hollywood Level Graphics? Which generated about 2259 page
views in
one day? This is truly impressive compare to any other links I have
posted. The
other news worth mentioning (breaking 600-700 page views) are Unreal Magazine Scans
(you guys love mag scans), DS:
Crazy Ass Japanese Dating Sim..you can lift up her dress? (crazy
Wii game),
and First look at Super
StarDust HD 4 New Screenshots.
Digging The Web: This week has been a busy
week for me, so I didn't get a
chance to update the Food site, I do have many crazy idea that will
leave you
guys laughing and going "WTF?!", and I am sure it will roll around
soon. Stay tune for it. The gaming portion of the site seems to be
doing quite
nicely in terms of content and visitors. We broke 11469 Unique Visitors
as I am
writing and 21424 pages have been viewed. Over 60% of you guys
have
bookmarked my page, which is very inspiring for me to know that people
are coming
back everyday for the daily dose of DiggingTheWeb. Again, I thank you
for your
readership! Until next week..
April
01, 2007 9:55AM Today's kind of quiet on the gaming front, I
don't expect a
whole lot of updates today due to April fool's jokes that is basically
going
out of control; including a piece of news that said the PS3 is having a
global
recall due to its lack of ability to cook sausages as advertised.
However, here
are the updates on what happened this week.
Industrial News: The biggest industrial news this week is the
confirmation
for the release of the Xbox 360 Elite which has a 120GB HDD and HDMI
ready
along with HDMI cable. Sony, interestingly, fires back right away
saying that
MS's strategy only ascertains Sony's take on the next gen war, because
each and
every Sony PS3 is HDMI ready and fully supports 1080p high def. gaming
(on
games that supports 1080p). The news can be reviewed here.
Rumors also has that Sony maybe coming out with a 80GB HDD PS3, but
Sony
official said there is no plans for that just yet.
On the
forefront of
the console war, let's look at the sales numbers again, thanks to VGChart.Org:
Although at first glance you may think that
this
number seems reasonable after the PAL and European launch that the PS3
gained
about 210k units. But if you compare the charts closely from last week
before
the launch, the "Others" already had 520k units. Everywhere I have
been to, claims that the PS3 have racked in anywhere from 500-600k in
sales, so
the actual figure for the PS3 now must be hovering around 3.2-3.3
million units
world wide. We will see an update shortly from the guys in VGCharts.
Game Buzz:
Interestingly, the
top visited link that almost broke 1000 page viewed is the Lair release date and
box-art,
so this validates how popular this game is going to be. Holding 2nd,
3rd, and
4th place is Toriyama's
soft
confirmation that FF13 is going to be on the PS3 due to its ideal
development environment, and the new gameplay Crysis Footage as
well as GTA second
by second dissection is
holding out about dead even respectively.
The game that
made
the most noticeable mention this week is the GTA IV trailer, which was
dissected second by second, frame by frame by numerous website, and
there was a
screenshot that said "VisitViceCity for $300" billboard. What is going on?? No one
knows,
RockStar's mouth is shut tight on this rumor.
DiggingTheWeb Development:
Digging The
Web is
all about entertainment and hanging out, so I am slowly starting the
food humor
section, the first week's theme is about chocolate and it's already up!
The
most viewed page was the chocolate
flavored
condom commercial.
We broke 6000
unique visitors since yesterday and had about 12519 of page view, and this is
quite high for a site that is about 2 weeks old. Thanks to the people
who clicked
on the google ad when they see things that interest them as well,
because it
helps to keep the server running and takes the load off of my
shoulder. As this week kicks into high gear for me; I may have
trouble providing news as fast as before, but I will try to keep up
with all the April craziness. Thank you guys for reading
the site!

Good
Morning, Sunshine!! Nice Sunday morning, time for our special event!!
Summary
of the week!! Here we go, buckle up!!
Industrial
Summary:
The week
ending March 24th, the biggest industrial news has got to be
the
launch of the PS3 in Europe everywhere including Australia and other PAL territories. The launch was a
mixed bag of
good and bad, and of course the most noticeable part of the launch was
ship
carrying a banner “Xbox ‘hearts’ You” in France! The summary of all the
events can be reviewed here.
Onto VG
charts, a look at the ongoing console war shows the following:
Sony is now the offical underdog! Can they stay the
King of the Hill for the 3rd time? Let us know what you think on the
boards. Btw, PSP, hardly a flop in my opinion, in just two years, it
has taken over 33.7% of the total handheld market, back in 2004
Nintendo dominated 99% of the handheld market. Well, you have to lose
some, to gain some. Moving on!
Game
buzz:
Which news
made the biggest splash this week (technically the past 4
days since the website hasn't even been launched for 5 full days yet!)
Here we go:
Drake's Fortune 2006
2007 progression link has 1002 page viewed making the the King of
the week, followed by famitsu scans of the 3 new IPs from
Cellius with 552 page viewed, and the third place is held by the new bioshock trailer
for both PC/Xbox at 379 page viewed.
DiggingTheWeb

Look at that! Saturday was the highest traffic of all time, breaking
the 500s! you guys rock!! I must tell you. (ignore the Sunday number,
its only 7 in the morning. We haven't even started yet!). Feel free to
compare what I have posted yesterday. Also increase in the numbers of
