Home should not be compare to
Second Life and here are some differences.
<>
Sony said that Home shouldn’t be compared to
Second Life;
the similarities end with the 3D environment, and that’s all.
In a way, Sony’s right and here are
some of the markedly difference between the two that I have observed
thus far.
(I have been playing Second Life for a bit back in the days). >
The
degree of freedom in Second
Life is a lot bigger, the players can create their own cloths, weapons,
physics, and everything they can imagine. While this user generated
creation
may eventually be available for Home; I am sure it will be tightly
regulated
and you will never see the days of countless sex shops or goblin
looking
characters walking around. Now, is this a bad thing? Not necessarily,
if you have
played Second Life before, you will know that the graphics are actually
pretty
crappy, pixilated, and the movement of the character is rigid. In the
PS3,
because everything is created by professionals, you will always have
clean
environment, and beautiful apartment houses. It’s like Final Fantasy
11’s Mog
House vs. a poolside party at Second Life. The difference in the
qualities of controlled
and uncontrolled environment is apparent.

Beastrader,
my old FF character
My friend's Mog House
This
is not to say that Home will
be anything less than a few Bowling Alley, dated arcade machines, and
pool
tables. It is much more than that, Sony has promised the ability for
big
companies AND smaller users like us to generate profit; you can bet all
you PS3 funds that Sony will make this big and commercially
meaningful. If that is true, it
will only be a short while until we see an auction house in Home? Well,
I sure
hope so. I would love to sell something I made in Little Big Planet to
someone
else for like 50 cents…but it will never be something like this:
Beastrader Reborn as Goblin with Buster
Sword - creativity vs controlled environment?
